BBC: The Power Of Nightmares

Friday, July 13, 2007

The Power Of Nightmares (The Rise of the Politics of Fear) explores the origins in the 1940s and 50s of Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East, and Neoconservatism in America, parallels between these movements, and their effect on the world today.

From the introduction to Part 1 (Baby It's Cold Outside): "Both [the Islamists and Neoconservatives] were idealists who were born out of the failure of the liberal dream to build a better world. And both had a very similar explanation for what caused that failure. These two groups have changed the world, but not in the way that either intended. Together, they created today's nightmare vision of a secret organized evil that threatens the world, a fantasy that politicians then found restored their power and authority in a disillusioned age. And those with the darkest fears became the most powerful."

BBC Conspiracy Files 9/11

Saturday, July 7, 2007

BBC originally aired "Conspiracy Files 9/11" on BBC Two on February 18th 2007.

It calls into question many of the 911 Truth movement theories on what may have happened, preferring to lean it's reporting toward the official version of events.

Producers description: "The Conspiracy Files investigates the growing number of conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks.

Incredibly some believe the American Government allowed or actively helped the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Those who question the official version believe the World Trade Center buildings were actually demolished by explosives; others ask why there was so little damage to the Pentagon's outer wall if a plane really had hit it.

And why was America so unprepared when terror attack warnings had been received?

The Conspiracy Files travels across the United States to investigate, speaking to eye witnesses and tries to separate fact from fiction."

It has drawn criticism and inspired an investigation video of the BBC's impartiality on the subject of 9/11. See 911 and the British Broadcasting Conspiracy.
